MATCHED BY EYE, NOT BY WEIGHT
Each Adrianna earring carries two stones side by side: a pear and an emerald cut. They are not the same weight. The emerald is 1.00 carat, the pear 0.80 — a difference of a quarter again.
Look at them and you would not know. The pear measures 7.70 mm long, the emerald 7.00 mm, so the lighter stone is the longer one. A pear spreads its weight outward into a shallow, tapering outline; a step cut carries more of its mass down into the pavilion where it cannot be seen. Balanced by carat, the pair would look lopsided. Balanced by eye, the carats have to differ.
That is the decision behind this piece, and it is the opposite of how diamonds are usually specified.
THE SETTING
The two stones sit in separate claw settings joined into a single gallery, so they cannot shift relative to each other. The pear takes a V-prong over its point; the emerald takes four claws at its bevelled corners. Two different settings, built to sit at one height, on a piece measuring 8.75 mm across the face and under 5 mm deep.
Four stones across the pair, 3.60 carats, on 2.77 grams of gold in 14K.
