AN EMERALD CUT HIDES NOTHING
Its long, open facets work as a window rather than a mirror. A brilliant cut scatters light into sparks, and those sparks conceal a great deal — a faint tint, a small inclusion, a facet cut a degree off true. A step cut returns light in broad, unbroken planes, and everything sits in plain view. Only the cleanest material will carry one.
The Alicia is built entirely from them. Twenty emerald-cut diamonds, 4.50 × 3.50 mm each, run the full circumference of the band — 6.00 carats in total, with no front, no back and no shoulder to hide behind.
THE SETTING
Each stone sits in its own collet: a metal collar cut to the rectangle of that particular diamond, rather than a shared channel or a row of prongs folded over the edges. Collet setting is slower and far less forgiving, because the collar must match the stone within a fraction of a millimetre or the seat shows. In return, every diamond is held independently and the girdle stays open, so light enters from the side as well as from above.
The stones meet corner to corner around the band. Any variation in length between neighbours breaks the line, so all twenty are matched for size and proportion before setting begins.
