UNDER A GRAM OF GOLD
Thirty-nine diamonds, each 1.40 mm across, run the full circumference of a band that carries less than a gram of gold in 14K. That is the whole difficulty of this ring. The less metal a setter has to work with, the smaller the margin between a stone that is held and a stone that is lost, and there is very little metal here.
THE SETTING
The seat is a U-cut. Rather than sitting the stones on a solid floor, the underside of the band is scooped into a continuous curve beneath them, so light passes through the row from below instead of stopping at metal. It is the reason a band this slight reads as bright rather than dim.
It is also why the tolerance is unforgiving. Every gram removed to open that channel is a gram no longer available to hold a diamond, and the cut has to run true around the entire circumference — a wall that thins unevenly will show as a wave along the edge long before it fails.

Diamonds — 39 round brilliant, 1.40 mm, 0.012 ct each. 0.47 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — U-cut, running the full band.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 0.99 g at 14K, 1.17 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
