THREE CUTS, ONE RHYTHM
A pear, a round brilliant and an emerald cut do not behave alike. The round scatters light into short bright flashes, the pear throws it long and directional, and the emerald returns it in broad flat planes that barely move. Put them in one band and the eye is asked to read three different behaviours as a single object.
The Brittany does exactly that, six of each: six pear cuts at 5.00 × 3.00 mm, six round brilliants at 4.00 mm, six emerald cuts at 5.00 × 3.50 mm. Eighteen stones, 4.97 carats, repeating around the circumference.
THE SETTING
Every stone sits in its own collet, which here means three entirely different collars — a curve that tapers to a point, a true circle, and a rectangle with cut corners — cut and finished to sit at a common height. A shared channel would have been far quicker and would have hidden the variation. It would also have flattened the pattern into a strip.
Because the three cuts sit at different depths for their weight, the seats are cut to different depths to bring every table onto the same plane. Get one wrong and a single stone sits proud of the sequence.
