NOBODY COLLETS A STONE THIS SMALL
At 2.40 mm and 0.06 carats, the ordinary answer is pavé — drop the stones into a shared row and raise small beads of metal over their edges. It is fast, it is standard, and at this size almost no one would question it.
The Chloe is built the other way. Each of its twenty-two diamonds is given its own collet, a collar cut individually to that stone. That is twenty-two separate seats on a band carrying 1.33 grams of gold in 14K, for 1.32 carats in total.
THE SETTING
The reason to do it is what happens to the light. A pavé row shares metal between neighbours, so each stone sits in a bed that partly closes it in. An individual collet leaves the girdle of every diamond open, and at this scale that is the difference between a band that glitters and one that goes grey in low light.
The cost is time and tolerance. Twenty-two collars have to be cut to the same height and the same interval around a very small circumference, and there is no shared wall to absorb an error.
