TWO-TENTHS OF A MILLIMETRE APART
The Clara is built from two sizes of round brilliant: twenty-four at 2.30 mm and twelve at 2.50 mm. The difference between them is two-tenths of a millimetre — too small to identify by eye stone by stone, and large enough that the pattern collapses if one is placed in the wrong position.
That is the discipline this ring asks for. There is no clever setting technique to admire here and no dramatic centre stone. There is a sequence of thirty-six diamonds that has to be sorted correctly, then seated in the right order, around a band with no beginning and no end. A single stone swapped between the two sizes is not a defect anyone could point to. It simply makes the rhythm read as slightly wrong.
THE SETTING
Every one of the thirty-six is collet-set, each in a collar cut to its own diameter. Because there are two diameters in play, there are two collar sizes, and each has to be cut to the depth that brings both sizes onto a common top line despite sitting at different heights for their weight.
