ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR CORNERS
A princess cut is a square with four sharp corners, and those corners are the most fragile geometry in diamond cutting. They are where the stone is thinnest, they take the impact first, and an unprotected one will chip. Every princess in a setting therefore has to have all four corners covered by metal — not approximately, but each one individually gripped.
The Constance carries thirty-one of them. That is one hundred and twenty-four corners, each of which has to be held by a prong placed precisely enough to protect the stone without sitting so far onto the table that it is visible from above.
THE SETTING
Around and beneath the princess row, ninety-two round brilliants at 1.30 mm are prong-set into the band, bringing the count to one hundred and twenty-three stones at 3.18 carats. Setting round melee alongside square stones means alternating between two completely different prong geometries along the same run — a claw for a curve, then a claw for a corner — without the spacing drifting.
The result is a square-edged band rather than a rounded one, with a flat top line broken only by the metal holding it together.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 31 princess cut, 2.30 mm, 0.073 ct each (2.26 ct); 92 round brilliant, 1.30 mm, 0.01 ct each (0.92 ct). 123 stones, 3.18 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Prong throughout, each princess corner individually held.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 3.93 g at 14K, 4.62 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
