THE ONLY CUT THAT READS AS A PETAL
A marquise is pointed at both ends and full through the middle. Lay four of them around a round brilliant and the eye does not see four diamonds and a fifth — it sees a flower. No engraving, no enamel, no shaping of the metal. The outline of the cut does all of the representing on its own.
The Daisy repeats that fourteen times: fourteen round centres at 4.00 mm, and fifty-six marquise at 6.00 × 3.00 mm opening outward from them. Seventy stones, 14.05 carats.
WHY IT IS DIFFICULT
Four marquise meeting around a centre means eight points converging on one small area of metal, two from each stone. Every point has to arrive at the same height and the same angle as its neighbours, and a point is the thinnest, most fragile part of the diamond — the place you most want to protect and the place the design most requires you to bring together.
Get one a fraction low and the petal droops. On a piece where the same arrangement repeats fourteen times, the eye has thirteen other flowers to compare it against.
