THE CUT THAT CHANGES THE HAND
Most decisions about a diamond change the ring. The orientation of an oval changes the finger.
Set lengthwise, running with the band, an oval draws the eye along the finger and makes the hand read as longer and narrower. Turn the same stone ninety degrees and it does the opposite — it emphasises the width of the band and shortens the line. Same diamond, same weight, same setting, entirely different effect on the person wearing it.
The Lillian runs its twenty ovals lengthwise, at 4.50 × 3.00 mm — a ratio of 1.5 to one, the proportion the trade regards as the classic oval, long enough to be clearly an oval and not so long that it starts to read as a marquise without points.
THE SETTING
Twenty ovals, 3.20 carats, each in an individual collet cut to follow the curve.
An oval is the least forgiving outline to collar because it has no straight edge and no corner — nothing to register the seat against. The collar has to be true at every point around a continuously changing curve, and on a stone this size any flat spot in that curve is visible.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 20 oval cut, 4.50 × 3.00 mm, 0.160 ct each. 3.20 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Collet, one per stone.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 3.44 g at 14K, 4.05 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.

Because the diamonds encircle the entire band, an eternity ring cannot be resized once it has been produced. Please size carefully before ordering.
