THE SAME DIAMOND, HELD TWO WAYS
The stones on the Pracilla are 4.00 mm round brilliants at 0.30 carats — the identical specification used on the Claire elsewhere in this collection. What differs is the metal around them, and it changes the piece completely.
The Claire holds its stones in collets, collars that leave the girdle open so light enters from the side. The Pracilla closes each one in a full bezel: a continuous wall rubbed over the girdle until it sits flush with the crown.
Those are opposite trades made on purpose. The bezel blocks side light, so each diamond returns a little less fire. In exchange it gives an unbroken flat surface with nothing standing above it, the most secure hold in the trade, and nothing to catch on a sleeve. One is the brighter bracelet. The other is the one you stop thinking about after a week.
THE SETTING
Thirty-one bezels, 9.30 carats, each wall formed square to a circle and closed by hand. A bezel around a round stone is a true circle, and the eye detects an imperfect circle faster than any other error — there is no straight edge or corner to distract from it.
At 21.87 grams of gold in 14K, the piece carries noticeably more metal than a collet-set equivalent. Bezels are made of gold, and thirty-one of them add up.
