THE CUT THAT IS NOT TRYING TO SPARKLE
A round brilliant has fifty-seven facets, all of them angled to break light into flashes. A baguette has about fourteen, arranged in flat parallel steps, and it makes almost no attempt at fire.
That is the point of it. A baguette is not a stone you look at; it is a line you look along. Set in a row it reads as a drawn stroke of white — continuous, architectural, closer to a rule ruled on paper than to a scatter of light. Every other cut in this collection is competing for attention. This one is drawing the shape.
THE SETTING
Thirty-seven baguettes at 4.00 × 2.00 mm, 3.70 carats in total, each in an individual collet cut square to its outline.
A baguette is unforgiving to set for the same reason it is calm to look at: it is a plain rectangle with four true corners and no bevels, so there is nothing to disguise a seat that sits a degree out of line. Thirty-seven rectangles laid end to end make thirty-six joins, and every one of those joins is a place where the eye can see whether the line is straight.

Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
