A GRID, NOT A HONEYCOMB
Rows of pavé are often offset, each shifted half a stone so its diamonds drop into the gaps of the next, like cells in a honeycomb. It packs round stones closest, and blurs them into one field of light. The Benedict does not offset its rows. Its thirty-six diamonds stand in four rows of nine, each in line with its neighbor in the next, so the lines run straight along the band and across it.
The rest of the ring is drawn with the same ruler. The top is flat and 6.97 mm across; four 1.50 mm stones side by side take 6.00 mm of it, leaving under half a millimeter of polished gold at each edge. The panel stops squarely across the band, with no frame, and beyond it the gold is plain.
THE SETTING
Each diamond is held by small beads raised from the gold, each shared with the stones around it. Four round stones meeting in a grid leave a wider space than offset rows would, and that is where the beads stand. Over them the top is 1.76 mm deep, against a 1.50 mm wall at the base: the stones sit down in the gold, not up on it.
The grid also makes the work exacting. Offset rows forgive a small error of position, as no line runs far enough to show it. Here every stone belongs to a row of nine and a column of four, and a seat cut a fraction off line shows as a kink the eye can follow across the whole panel.

Diamonds — 36 round brilliant, 1.50 mm, 0.0125 ct each. 0.45 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Shared bead, four rows of nine in a rectangular panel across the top, the rows aligned rather than offset.
Band — 6.97 mm wide at the top, tapering to 5.04 mm at the base; 1.76 mm at the profile over the beads, 1.50 mm at the base. 19.81 mm inner diameter at size 10.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 4.90 g at 14K, 5.76 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
