EACH CLAW RUNS THE FULL HEIGHT OF THE HEAD
On most four-claw heads the claw is a short hook: it folds over the stone, ends below the girdle, and something else — a collar, a basket, a rail — holds the head together underneath. The Clarissa's claws do not end there. Each folds over one corner of the 5.60 mm princess cut and then carries straight on downward as a flat bar, the whole depth of a head standing 5.27 mm above the shank, finishing at the shoulder.
Four bars, one to each corner. The head keeps the stone's square outline all the way down rather than widening into a round collar, and the metal that grips a corner is the same metal carrying the diamond to the band. Between the bars the sides stand open, so the pavilion is in view from any angle.
THE SETTING
Twelve round brilliants of 1.70 mm run in single file down the shoulders, six a side, sunk between two rails of gold that stand a little proud of them. Each stone is gripped by beads at its corners, and every bead is shared with its neighbor.
Behind the row the shank wall is cut through, one round window under each stone, so light reaches a 1.70 mm diamond from the back as well as the front. The row stops at the widest point of each shoulder and the band below runs plain to the base. Under the head the bridge to the shoulders is cut away as well, leaving the princess open beneath.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 1 princess cut center, 5.60 × 5.60 mm; 12 round brilliant, 1.70 mm, 0.02 ct each (0.24 ct). 13 stones. Carat weight confirmed at order.
Certification — the princess cut center diamond ships with its certificate: GIA for natural, IGI for lab-grown. The twelve 1.70 mm round brilliants are melee and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Four-claw collet, one bar to each corner of the princess, open on all four sides; bead-set shoulder rows between raised rails.
Band — 2.20 mm wide, 1.28 mm at the profile at the base, wider at the shoulders. The head stands 5.27 mm above the shank. 17.90 mm inner diameter.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 2.55 g at 14K, 3.00 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
