ONE COLLAR HOLDS ALL SEVENTEEN
Round the center stone of the Cosima there is one piece of metal. The oval, 9.16 × 6.53 mm, drops into a collar cut to its outline; four claws rise off that collar and fold over its girdle; and sixteen round brilliants of 1.20 mm are set into the outer face of the same wall, in one circuit below the stone. Nothing was added to carry them: no second rim, no basket, no rail let in under the girdle.
It keeps the head short. From the table of the oval to the underside of the setting is 5.16 mm — stone, collar and halo together, none of them stacked on another. Below that the band is plain polished gold the whole way round, nothing on the shoulders and nothing inside, 2.23 mm across and 1.58 mm through at the base, thinning as it climbs, then dividing into two arms that meet the collar and leave an open window on each side.
THE SETTING
Both settings are cut into one wall, facing opposite ways. Inside it is the ledge the oval rests on. Outside, sixteen seats in a row, each stone held by small beads raised from the metal around it.
Every bead raised on the outside takes metal out of the one wall a stone this size depends on, and it has to be taken sixteen times. What is underneath does not help: two arms of the shank come up to the collar, a short tapered peg takes the point of the oval, and between them the head is open.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 1 oval cut center, 9.16 × 6.53 mm; 16 round brilliant, 1.20 mm, 0.008 ct each (0.13 ct). 17 stones. Carat weight confirmed at order.
Certification — the oval center diamond ships with its certificate: GIA for natural, IGI for lab-grown. The sixteen round brilliants of the halo are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Collet, with four claws over the oval; sixteen accents bead-set into its outer wall as a hidden halo.
Band — At the base, 2.23 mm wide and 1.58 mm at the profile, narrowing toward the head. The head stands 5.16 mm from the table of the oval to the underside of the collet. 16.70 mm inner diameter.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 2.30 g at 14K, 2.70 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
