CUT THROUGH THE BAND, NOT INTO IT
A band showing three rows of diamonds is usually one piece of metal with two grooves scored across its top. The Desmond is cut through instead. Two openings pass right through the gold, so the 7.80 mm top is not a surface with lines on it but three separate bars with daylight between them.
Those openings run well past the set section. Each carries on down the side of the shank as a straight slot in the polished gold, closing only low down, where the band comes back together and narrows to 5.23 mm. It is why a ring 7.80 mm across weighs 5.75 grams in 14K.
THE SETTING
The center bar holds eleven round brilliants of 2.10 mm in single file, and between each diamond and the next stands a pair of polished beads, one at either edge of the bar, so every stone is gripped from both sides. The outer bars carry forty-eight stones of 1.00 mm between them, less than half the diameter of the center row, in a finer line of the same beadwork.
The gaps are what make the setting exacting. With open space either side of every bar there is no shared metal between the rows to draw on: each line has to be held within the width of its own bar, and the gold is left 1.76 mm deep to keep that bar stiff. Look through the ring and the work carries on inside: the seats show as open circles, wide down the center bar and fine along the outer two.

Setting — Shared bead, paired on the center bar, finer on the outer two.
Band — 7.80 mm wide across the top, tapering to 5.23 mm at the base; 1.76 mm at the profile at the top, 1.58 mm at the base. 19.81 mm inner diameter at size 10.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 5.75 g at 14K, 6.77 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
