FIFTY-TWO DIAMONDS, NONE ON THE FACE
Every one of the Dorian's fifty-two diamonds sits in a side wall of the band — twenty-six along each, over the upper half of the ring — in the faces that turn toward the fingers either side. They face out from the hand rather than up from it, so from above they show only as a bright thread along each edge of a plain gold face 7.00 mm wide and 2.00 mm thick.
That outer face is the surface a band actually uses: the part that meets a desk, a steering wheel, a pocket. Left plain the whole way round, it can be polished back edge to edge, with no seat to work around. Below the middle of the ring every surface is plain. In 14K the band weighs 6.27 grams.
THE SETTING
Each diamond sits in a groove cut along the wall, between a polished rail at the outer edge and another at the inner, held by beads that each serve two stones. Depth is not the difficulty — the seats run into the 7.00 mm width. The tight dimension is the other way: a 1.20 mm stone in a wall 2.00 mm deep leaves 0.80 mm of gold for both rails, and the beads are raised out of that.
The two rows are mirror images. Each ends square at the middle of the ring, directly opposite the other, and along the set half the stones and beads stand a fraction proud of each wall, taking the width to 7.40 mm.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 52 round brilliant, 1.20 mm, 0.0065 ct each. 0.34 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Shared bead, a single row in a groove on each side of the band, over the top half, both rows closed square at the ends.
Band — 7.00 mm wide, 7.40 mm across the set half. 2.00 mm at the profile. 19.81 mm inner diameter at size 10.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 6.27 g at 14K, 7.38 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
