TWO, THREE, SEVEN, THREE, TWO
Read the Gregory from one shoulder to the other and the diamonds fall into groups: two, three, seven, three, two. Seventeen stones in five frames, and they do not all run the same way. The seven along the top are 2.20 mm round brilliants set in a line with the band; the bars of three that close that line at either end are 1.20 mm stones laid across it.
Past each bar the row picks up again: two more 2.20 mm stones in a frame of their own, continuing over the shoulder. The six crossbar stones weigh 0.039 carats between them, under a tenth of the 0.44 in the other eleven, so a break reads as a fine bright seam rather than more of the same line. Beyond the last frame the gold is plain, though the profile does not change: a raised center with a lower rim stepped along either edge, the whole way round.
THE SETTING
All seventeen are bead-set: grains of gold raised out of the metal beside each stone and pressed down over its edge, shared between one stone and the next. On a 2.20 mm diamond those beads are large enough to read as part of the pattern. In the crossbars the same operation is repeated on a stone 1.20 mm across, a little over half the diameter and about a sixth of the weight, with the bead reduced in proportion.
Each of the five frames is sunk into the top with straight walls and square inside corners. The three long ones keep a flat polished border above and below their stones. The crossbars keep none: they run the full width of the raised center, step to step, the only part of the setting that reaches both its edges.

Band — 7.13 mm wide at the top, tapering to 5.50 mm at the base. 1.69 mm at the profile over the stones, 1.71 mm at the base. 19.81 mm inner diameter at size 10.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 4.87 g at 14K, 5.73 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
