SIX END STONES, THREE IN THE MIDDLE
An end stone is the awkward one: it sits where a row stops and the metal runs out, with a neighbor on one side only, and most set bands carry two. The Jonathan carries six. Its nine round brilliants are laid not in one row but in three of three, each crossing the top of the band on a slant and ending at the edge of the face, so only the middle stone of a row has a diamond on either side.
The face is a raised panel, the band stepping down to a lower rail along both edges, and that step is what each row runs into, at an angle rather than square to it. Between the rows the gold is left flat and polished, so the top reads as stripes on the slant.
The diamonds are the smallest thing on the ring: 1.80 mm each, 0.20 carats in all, on a band 6.94 mm across the top, 2.50 mm thick there and 6.57 grams in 14K. Away from the rows it is plain, narrowing to 5.68 mm and 1.30 mm under the finger.
THE SETTING
Each row lies in a slot cut down into the face, a fine raised edge along both long sides and the stones sitting below the polished gold either side of them. One bead holds each end of a row; one between neighboring stones bears on two diamonds at once.
The six end beads are the exacting part. Each is raised from the last of the gold before the step, and none is seen on its own: three fall along one edge of the face, three along the other. A row cut a fraction long or short stands its end bead at a different distance from the step, to be read against the other five.

Diamonds — 9 round brilliant, 1.80 mm, 0.022 ct each. 0.20 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Shared bead, three stones to a slot, in three slots cut on the slant and divided by polished bars.
Band — 6.94 mm wide at the top, tapering to 5.68 mm at the base, stepped down to a lower rail along each edge. 2.50 mm at the profile at the top, 1.30 mm at the base.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 6.57 g at 14K, 7.73 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
