THE HALO IS THE WIDTH OF THE STONE
The halo on the Millicent is set below the girdle of the center stone, on the outside of the collar that holds it: twenty-two round brilliants of 0.80 mm in one unbroken row. Laid end to end they measure 17.6 mm — one circuit of a collar this size, with nothing spare. The seats have to close the circle exactly, because the 6.80 mm diamond standing on the collar settles how far round it goes.
That is twenty-three diamonds on a head measuring 6.91 mm, eleven hundredths of a millimeter more than the center stone by itself. The twenty-two carry 0.003 ct each, 0.07 ct against the 1.17 carats above them, and they are seen from the side and across the hand rather than from straight above.
Under the row the collar is cut through — small arched openings beneath the seats, taller ones below them, the base left open behind the pavilion. A short bridge takes the head onto the shank; from the top of the shoulders to the top of the center stone is 5.87 mm, and below that the band is plain polished gold, 2.20 mm across and 1.23 mm through at the base.
THE SETTING
Each accent sits in its own seat, held by small beads raised on either side, with a fine bright edge left above and below the row. That edge is what remains of the collar wall once the seats are cut, and the arches open immediately beneath it, so little metal stands between a seat and a hole.
The four claws stand on the diagonals and rise from inside the collar rather than off its rim, so the row passes behind all four without a break. An unbroken row also leaves nowhere to take up a seat cut a little wide.
SPECIFICATIONS
Diamonds — 1 round brilliant center, 6.80 mm, 1.17 ct; 22 round brilliant, 0.80 mm, 0.003 ct each (0.07 ct). 23 stones, 1.24 ct total.
Certification — the 1.17 ct round center diamond ships with its certificate: GIA for natural, IGI for lab-grown. The twenty-two accents are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Collet, with four claws over the center stone; 22 accents bead-set in a row round the collar below the girdle, on a pierced, open-backed gallery.
Band — 2.20 mm wide, 1.23 mm at the profile. The head stands 5.87 mm above the shoulders and measures 6.91 mm across. 17.77 mm inner diameter.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 2.08 g at 14K, 2.45 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
