TWO ROWS ON A SHALLOW DIAGONAL
The recessed panel carrying the diamonds of the Nathaniel is not square to the band. It crosses the face at a shallow angle, so the polished rail on one side widens as the rail on the other narrows. Set straight down the center, the panel would leave two equal margins of gold; set on the slant, the stones take a direction, and one band reads as two laid across each other.
Follow the panel round and the crossing resolves at a step. The stones end in a row of beads against plain metal, and the rail above them drops a level into the shank, as if the upper band had been laid on and finished there. Below it the band narrows to 5.61 mm beneath the finger, just under two millimeters thick top and bottom: 6.07 grams of gold in 14K.
THE SETTING
The thirty-four round brilliants, 1.50 mm each and 0.43 carats between them, are bead-set in two rows: each stone gripped by small beads of gold shared with its neighbors, and a line of beads along both long edges of the panel. Touching each stone at a few points only, they let the two rows read as one bright surface.
The angle makes the setting harder. The rows follow the panel, not the rim, so they cannot be sighted off the edge of the ring, and the tapering rails either side show any wander at once. Every seat is pierced through to the inside of the band, so light reaches the diamonds from below.

Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
