ONE SURFACE, FROM THE ROW TO THE BACK
A row of diamonds on a men's band usually arrives on something made to carry it: a plate stepped up from the shank, or a rail raised above the gold around it. The Philip is made as one piece instead. Its outside is a single polished surface, a broad gently curved top with a channel cut down the center, and it runs on unbroken to the back of the ring. Thirteen round brilliants of 2.70 mm lie in that channel, a little over a third of the 7.56 mm width.
That is a harder band to finish. A raised plate is polished as its own piece, with an edge to keep crisp where it meets the gold; here there is no such edge. Past the last stone the channel closes square and the gold carries on, narrowing to 5.97 mm at the base and from 2.61 mm deep to 2.06 mm. One highlight runs the whole length of the ring, and any flat spot along it shows. 8.36 grams of gold in 14K.
THE SETTING
Each diamond has four beads of its own, raised from the two walls of the channel, two to a side; between neighbors they stand as a pair rather than one bead reaching over both girdles. The channel is one depth all the way along, so every seat has to match it: a shade shallow and the stone stands above the line of the others, a shade deep and it drops away from the light.
Inside the band, the gold behind the row is cut back into a shallow panel with squared ends, and a round opening sits under every stone.

Diamonds — 13 round brilliant, 2.70 mm, 0.0738 ct each. 0.96 ct total.
Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.
Setting — Bead, four to each stone, in a channel cut into the top half of the band, open beneath.
Band — 7.56 mm wide at the top, tapering to 5.97 mm at the base; 2.61 mm at the profile at the top, 2.06 mm at the base. 19.81 mm inner diameter at size 10.
Metal — 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. 8.36 g at 14K, 9.84 g at 18K.
Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
