THE WIDEST PART IS NOT THE STONES
The Roderick measures 7.80 mm across the recessed plate that carries its diamonds; the two bars that close that plate at either end measure 8.62 mm, so each stands about four-tenths of a millimeter proud of the band on either side. What meets the ring on the next finger, or the rim of a pocket, is therefore the chamfered end of a bar rather than the edge of the band — gold at a point where there is no stone.
Between the bars the stones are sunk into the plate rather than lifted on a head. Through the diamonds the ring is 2.06 mm deep, inside of the finger to the top of the stones; at the base, 2.10 mm. No diamond stands above the gold around it, so a glove or a pocket lining meets metal rather than a stone. A broad center rib with a narrower stepped rail at each side runs the whole way round the finger, past the bars and down to the base, where the band has closed to 4.50 mm.
THE SETTING
Each princess cut is turned on point, its four corners on the axes of the band. Round beads hold the two that point along the row, and the beads between stones are shared: four for three diamonds.
A princess cut is weakest at its corners, where the stone thins to a point. Two of the four are under beads; the other two face the edges of the band and stop against the plate's rails, with gold between each point and the outside of the ring. The beads also fix the spacing: three stones, four beads, centered from bar to bar.

Certification — these are melee diamonds and are not individually certified, which is standard practice at this size.

Diamond origin — natural or lab-grown, to preference.
