SEVEN PANELS, THREE STONES IN EACH
Set as one unbroken line, twenty-one round brilliants of 3.00 mm would read as a single bright strip, the individual stones lost in it. The Theodore interrupts the row every third stone. A flat bar of gold crosses the channel, level with the rails, and closes each group of three inside its own rectangle: seven panels around the band, 2.13 carats in all.
The diamonds occupy less than two-fifths of the 7.85 mm width. The rest is gold, stepped from the center outward: a raised rail beside the channel, a groove, then a broad flat edge. The bars tie the rails together at seven points, so the edges read as one frame rather than two parallel lines.
THE SETTING
Each panel holds its three stones on eight polished beads, four to a rail: one hard against each bar, and one between every two diamonds. The middle stone is held entirely on beads it shares with its neighbors; the outer two each keep a bead of their own on the side facing the bar — the one place in the panel where a bead grips a single diamond rather than two. The bar frames the group; it never touches a stone.
A shared bead closes over two stones at once, so both must be seated before either is secured, and in an unbroken row that dependency runs the whole way round. The bars stop it every third stone: each group is seated and closed as its own unit, and nothing outside the panel depends on it. Beneath every diamond an opening passes through to the inside of the band, letting light in from below.
